5 Considerations When Choosing an IoT Connectivity Partner (3/5) – Reliability

5 Considerations When Choosing an IoT Connectivity Partner (3/5) – Reliability

#3 Reliability

In addition to switching between networks globally, eUICC technology also enables static devices or devices with a small travel radius to steer to the best network, instead of the primary network. Obviously when you have one carrier, they will not send you to the competition simply because they have an extra bar of service where you happen to be. Not so with IoT.

Highest quality coverage

Quality of service comes from redundancy. Equal access to various networks in the same country or even the same city means that if one carrier has 3G and another has 4G with similar signal strength, the device will be connected to 4G. If it loses connection or drops in signal strength, then it would automatically connect to the second best network available at that moment, in that location.

Multiple networks = better coverage

Imagine your phone is dead, you forgot your cable, and you are driving between major cities relying instead on your connected smart watch for GPS. You know from driving this route before that coverage from your mobile provider comes and goes along this rural stretch of road, but surprisingly, your watch doesn’t miss a beat.

Multi-IMSI Makes it Possible

If your watch SIM supports multiple profiles and your usage plan includes access to all four major networks in this area, your watch could switch seamlessly from one to another to optimize service the entire length of the journey, not just ensuring continuous coverage, but the best service possible.

When Coverage is Critical

Extrapolate this scenario to mission-critical devices like pacemakers and water-level alerting meters. Reliable coverage is not simply a convenience, but an absolute necessity for many business models.

Don’t settle for one network simply because your device is in one place.
