ZARIOT has partnered with Cavero Quantum to integrate post-quantum cryptographic capability directly at the SIM level, extending quantum-safe authentication and encryption to even the most constrained IoT environments.
The collaboration enables IoT deployments to address current and emerging quantum-era security risks without requiring hardware replacement or redesign. By embedding scalable post-quantum capability within the SIM architecture, the partnership strengthens long-term resilience for devices already deployed in the field, without replacing hardware or redesigning deployed systems, as well as new rollouts. Cavero’s lightweight post-quantum approach is specifically designed for constrained environments where traditional quantum-safe algorithms may be impractical.
Working alongside long-term ecosystem partner Wadaro, ZARIOT can now make Cavero’s cutting-edge capabilities available within its broader secure connectivity framework, combining integration expertise with advanced cryptographic innovation.
Addressing the Coming Cryptographic Transition
The shift towards post-quantum cryptography is accelerating Governments and standards bodies worldwide are formalising migration timelines, while organisations face the growing risk of “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks targeting long-lived data.
With over 41 billion connected IoT devices expected by 2030, many designed for operational lifespans of 10-15 years, organisations face a structural challenge. Devices deployed today may still be in service during the formal transition to post-quantum standards.
In many environments, particularly critical national infrastructure and industrial IoT, hardware refresh cycles are costly and operationally complex. Traditional approaches that hard-code post-quantum algorithms during SIM manufacturing limit cryptographic agility once devices are deployed. As standards evolve, this rigidity can create operational and compliance risk.
ZARIOT’s collaboration with Cavero introduces a more adaptable approach, enabling post-quantum key exchange and updates, authentication and encryption suitable for constrained environments including SIM cards and embedded IoT devices.
Why SIM-Level Post-Quantum Capability Matters
Delivering post-quantum cryptography at the SIM layer provides several strategic advantages:
- Protection of devices already deployed in the field
- Reduced dependency on hardware replacement cycles
- Greater alignment with evolving regulatory and standards frameworks
- Cryptographic agility as standards evolve
For organisations operating in highly regulated or security-sensitive sectors, this represents an important step in managing lifecycle risk as cryptographic standards evolve.
“Companies delivering services at the edge need solutions now to keep CNI and data secure, not in five years,” says James Trenholme, CEO of Cavero Quantum. “That’s why the work we’re doing with ZARIOT is so exciting, and so necessary.”
Jimmy Jones, Head of Security at ZARIOT, adds: “As the industry prepares for the post-quantum transition, organisations deploying IoT today must consider the lifespan of those devices. By integrating Cavero’s technology into our ecosystem, we are enabling SIM-level post-quantum capability designed to support long-term security without increasing operational complexity.”
Strengthening the ZARIOT Ecosystem
ZARIOT has consistently positioned itself as more than a connectivity provider. Through its open ecosystem model, the company integrates specialised technologies to deliver secure, flexible and future-ready IoT deployments.
The addition of Cavero expands ZARIOT’s ability to support operators and enterprises seeking cryptographic agility in constrained environments, particularly in sectors where infrastructure longevity and regulatory compliance are critical. This integration reinforces ZARIOT’s commitment to building a modular, security-first IoT ecosystem capable of adapting to evolving threat and regulatory landscapes.
The partnership will be discussed further at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona.
